7 Day Painting Holidays in Greece - Itineraries

ATHENS & THE ATHENIAN COAST

£735 Half Board (excluding flight)
Departures: 8th May & 5th June 2004

Athens and its coastal region provide a wide variety of scenes and landscapes for the painter – ancient monuments and archaeological sites, colourful street life, marinas and a beautiful coastline. Our Athens painting holiday, based at the four star Sea View Hotel in the coastal resort of Glyfada, is designed to cover all of these, as well as allowing some free time for painting - either locally, in Glyfada - café life, marinas, churches – or at a location which you may have seen during one of our excursions.

The Acropolis & Plaka
There are six excursions during your stay, including a day at The Acropolis and in Plaka, the old quarter of Athens, with its narrow streets, restaurants, tree lined squares and archaeological sites.

Street Market
Mid week is the time for local street markets, each one, a blaze of colour, with flower stalls, fresh fruit and vegetables of every description, clothes and material stalls - all laid out under brightly coloured awnings and umbrellas.

Mikrolimano
A further day will be dedicated to painting at the picturesque old yacht harbour of Mikrolimano, with its outdoor restaurants lining the quayside and backed by tier upon tier, of traditional Greek houses.

Coastal Scenery
A visit to a small sandy bay, backed by red cliffs, at Vouliagmenis, will provide a complete change of landscape, as well as providing an opportunity for swimming.

Painting & Wine Tasting
A small rural winery, with its 230 year old buildings and tranquil courtyard, carefully restored in accordance with the regions architectural traditions (even down to the gun sites on the stone walls of the buildings), is one of the highlights of the week. Not only an opportunity to paint but wine tasting as well! - plus a visit to the cellars and the chance to stock up with some good wines, in readiness for the return home.

Cape Sounion
An afternoon / evening excursion will take you to Cape Sounion, where in a majestic position perched high on the cliffs, stands the Temple Of Poseidon, God of the sea. Here the sunset can be awe-inspiring – a ball of fire, sinking into and lighting up, the sea and the pillars of the Temple.

Single room supplement £ 100 per week

PAINTING THE PELOPPONESE
MOUNTAINS, MONASTERIES & MONUMENTS

£ 875 full board (excluding flight)
Departures: 15th May & 12th June 2004

On arrival in Athens, you will stay overnight at the Parthenon Hotel, which we have specifically selected for its proximity to The Acropolis and Plaka, which you will be able to visit, before setting off on Sunday for the Pelopponese and the Kaiafa Lake Hotel, where you will stay for the remainder of the week.

En route through the Pelopponese, we will take a short detour into the mountains for a break at an ancient hill top monastery, where there will be an opportunity for painting and sketching, before continuing to Kaiafa.

At Kaiafa there will be a full day workshop with the artist in residence and one free day for painting at leisure, the hotel has excellent mountain views and an attractive garden and pool area.

During your stay at Kaiafa there will be three painting excursions, including the beautiful and serene Lake Kaiafa, with its wooded shores, the ancient archaeological monument of Olympia, home, 3500 years ago to the first Olympic Games and finally, into the mountain heartland of the Pelopponese, with its stunning landscapes and quaint mountain villages.

Single room supplement £90
