| POETRY SET TO MUSIC
Since antiquity, Greek poetry was recited,
accompanied by the Lyre.
Homer knew his poetry by heart, and the sound of the Lyre mesmerized his
audience. Sappho’s poetry, while taking place about 500 years after
Homer, still used the magical sound of the Lyre.
Modern and
contemporary Greek poetry is still based in its roots along the lines
that it follows, probably unconsciously, the ancient Greek tradition.
Mikis Theodorakis composed music for the Nobel
prize Greek poets
G.Seferis and Odysseus Elytis. Theodorakis filled stadiums with up to
30.000 People. Contemporary Greek poetry was sang
and became known throughout the world.

This unity of poetry and music
is a tradition that goes back 4.000 years.
